Moon Sweepers Multiplayer: Host, Join and Share Progress
Quick answer
Moon Sweepers supports online co-op for up to 16 players. Everyone plays on the host's Moon, with a shared wallet, shared upgrade matrix and shared waypoints. Tools and vehicles remain each player's own. The host chooses Friends only, Public or Invite only, and everyone must be on the same game version.
Host and join
Host a session and invite friends
- 01
Start on the host's save
The host loads one of the five save slots. A crew plays on the host's Moon; joining another crew does not merge your solo base into it.
- 02
Choose who can join
The host selects Friends only, Public or Invite only when starting the session. Public games appear in the Join game list. Friends-only games are reached through the Steam invite path.
- 03
Invite through Steam
Open the Steam overlay with Shift+Tab and invite a friend from the session, or use the crew/invite control exposed by the game's pause menu. The invite is a Steam invitation, not a separate game account.
- 04
Have the guest join
The guest accepts the Steam invitation or finds the public lobby in the Join game list. The host's Moon and wallet load for the crew.
Host rules
Host controls and session end
The host can kick a player from the pause menu or ban them from the same Moon. A banned player cannot rejoin until the host unbans them; bans are stored with the save slot. The host leaving ends the session for everyone. This is a hosted world, not a persistent dedicated server.
| Rule | Effect |
|---|---|
| Host leaves | The session ends; the host's Moon goes with them. |
| Kick | The crewmate leaves now but may join again later. |
| Ban | The crewmate cannot join that Moon until the host unbans. |
| Version mismatch | The guest must match the host's game version. |
| Steam not running | The game is solo; Steam is the crew layer. |
Connection checks
When joining fails
- Check the game version first. Everyone in the crew must be on the same version.
- Restart Steam if the overlay or invite list is not responding; the game uses Steam for the crew layer.
- Confirm the host's privacy choice. A Friends-only session will not appear in the public Join game list.
- Check the host is still in the world. If the host left, the session has ended.
- Remove recently added mods from both sides. The current mod guidance says co-op is often untested and all players may need the same framework.
- Try a direct Steam invite instead of the public browser, and have the guest accept the invitation from the Steam client.
The official 1.0.3 patch made upgrades shared and added kick/ban controls. Patch 1.0.4 reworked ground synchronization so all players see the same cleaned ground. If one player sees dust reappearing, check that everyone is actually on 1.0.4.
